Gradually soldiers increase their status and acquire higher ranks. Surviving soldiers gain experience points for each bug killed / bug holes destroyed. From simple combat missions to escorts or bug capturing. The mission objectives are also different. There is a wide variety of enemies, from simple close range fighters to suicide units, artillery bugs and even human soldiers. Enemy units are not very smart, but they use their own special abilities like split acid and are very powerful. During a mission there are no reinforcements and you are outnumbered by the bugs. Each squad contains a leader, five soldiers and a specialist (medic, engineer, PSI to detect hidden bugs, MIST-Trooper as a sniper). Instead, you have to lead up to three squads into combat. This is one of the few strategy games where you cannot build a base and recruit units.
Both the game and the movie are based on the novel by Robert A. This game is not based on the movie Starship Troopers. Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy is a real-time strategy game with a common misunderstanding.
